Buying field service software is unreasonably hard. Vendor sites all claim the same things. The comparison pages that rank are usually written by people who have never dispatched a technician, and a lot of the “best of” lists are ranked by who pays the most.

Modern Field Service exists to be the thing we wanted and couldn’t find: someone who actually runs the software, on real work, and writes down what happened.

How we test

Every platform gets put on a real workflow — emergency calls, recurring maintenance agreements, multi-day jobs, seasonal surges — and left there. Not a demo. Not a feature grid. The questions we care about are the ones that decide whether you keep a tool after month three:

• Does the routing actually cut drive time, or just draw lines on a map?
• Can it assign the right technician based on skills and certifications?
• What happens at 7am when a job cancels and three techs are already moving?
• What does it really cost at your headcount, after the add-ons?

When a tool is bad at something, that goes in the review. Where a competitor wins, we say so and name them.
